Vigo Boom

Mississippi born and bred, Vigo Boom, 42, is a mostly self-taught artist. A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, he holds a degree in Performing Arts. After many years as a music educator, he changed careers and worked in human resouces for a major casino and for a nationally known financial aid services corporation as both a counselor and a corporate trainer. Making the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast his home, Vigo relocated from Biloxi to Bay St. Louis in July of 2005. Here, he planned to focus on his recently rediscovered love of painting. Exactly one month after the move, Hurricane Katrina destroyed his home and studio, including all of his current works, supplies and materials. With no place to call home, he journeyed to Memphis where he became immersed in the local music scene and culture of the Delta.
The fall of 2005 brought many new experiences, encounters and relationships. This journey through his home state inspired a renewed appreciation for the people, culture and faces of the deep south and inspired the current collection. Vigo is currently living near the Coast with relatives and has converted a borrowed barn into his studio. He is looking forward to returning to Bay St. Louis and so is his dog, Dave.
